Apart from routine academics and patient services, the holistic development of faculty and students of medical and allied sciences requires research aptitude for furtherance in patient care. To address this, the faculty from Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College and General Hospital has taken immense efforts and established Research Society of SKNMC, Pune. I give my best wishes for all the research related activities that the society will initiate in future and believe that these activities will be in accordance to the aims and objectives of the society.

In today’s era the importance of medical research can not be over emphasized Around the world medical teachers & institutions serve as the epicentre of biomedical research .Currently there are about 459 medical colleges with over 120 other teaching institutions wherein medical teachers are expected to do quality research .There are some startling statistics of 579 Indian medical institutions and hospitals. 332medical colleges had not published a single research paper over the past 10 years. During the same 10 year period ,the total research output of Massachusetts general hospital was 46,311 publications, which was 4.07times the number of publications from the prestigious AIIMS institute. Medicine is an ever-changing science and mandates ongoing research .Medical teachers have to accept that doing quality research and publication is now not only a criteria for career advancement but also an ongoing important duty .We cannot expect future generations to become good researchers unless the current medical teachers set an example themselves and mentor their junior colleagues and students. Developing the research culture in our medical institutions would ensure that quality research will emerge from our country.
